Goldy Hyder, President and CEO of the Business Council of Canada (BCC), recently completed a significant visit to Chile, marking his first official trip to South America in this role. The visit was designed to enhance economic ties between Chile and Canada through meetings with government ministers and representatives from both public and private sectors.

Organized by the Chilean-Canadian Chamber of Commerce, along with support from the Canadian Embassy in Chile, the Chilean Embassy in Canada, and InvestChile, Hyder's itinerary focused on various strategic areas including investments and bilateral relations. The BCC represents chief executives and entrepreneurs from over 17 leading Canadian companies.

Hyder was joined by Daniela Lombardo, Trade Policy Analyst at BCC, and Pierre Alarie, Region Chair of ATCO Latin America.

On the first day of his visit, discussions centered around economic outlooks at Scotiabank's Santiago office. Participants included Jorge Selaive from Scotiabank and Rodrigo Wagner from the Ministry of Finance. A roundtable discussion followed with senior executives from Chilean companies on investment flows and trade dynamics. Key figures such as former Minister of Finance Eduardo Aninat participated in these discussions.

The second day highlighted mining and energy sectors with a visit to Teck Resources Limited’s operations center. An MoU was signed between BCC and CPC to strengthen business collaboration. A meeting with Energy Minister Diego Pardow focused on sustainability issues.

The final day involved talks on institutional strengthening with José Miguel Benavente from CORFO, acting Foreign Affairs Minister Gloria de la Fuente, and concluded with a meeting with Public Works Minister Jessica López.

Canada remains a leading source for foreign direct investment in Chile since 2018. InvestChile continues its efforts to position Chile as an attractive destination for investment.
