Health inspections have commenced for the potential opening of the Philippine market to Paraguayan beef, pork, and poultry exports. This development follows a report by the newspaper 2Días on May 5 regarding a visit from a Philippine delegation conducting a technical mission.

The National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) of the Philippines has initiated an official health audit to evaluate the quality, safety, and traceability standards of Paraguay's production system. This audit is essential for opening up this export market. The inspection process will continue until May 14 and is managed by Paraguay's National Animal Quality and Health Service (Senacsa), which plays a significant role in maintaining international markets for Paraguayan meat products.

The Philippines depends heavily on imports to meet its increasing demand for animal protein due to its population exceeding 120 million people. If approved, this authorization could provide significant opportunities for Paraguayan agribusinesses, particularly those operating under international standards.

The visiting Philippine delegation consists of four auditors led by Chief of Mission Role Lee Nanding Cataluña. They have inspected various facilities including meat packing plants and slaughterhouses in Villa Hayes. According to Senacsa, "During this audit, they will evaluate the food safety control system and conduct inspection visits to the Senacsa central laboratory and entry/exit points."

Key figures from Senacsa involved in this process include Dr. Natalia Díaz de Vivar, Dr. Gloria Campuzano, Dr. Claudia Silvera, Dr. Jesica Duarte, and Dr. Rodrigo Martínez.

José Carlos Martin from Senacsa highlighted that "the Philippines imports more than 1.4 million tons of meat per year," emphasizing its importance as a commercial destination for Paraguay due to its size and demand for animal protein.

Additionally, Filipino businessman Jet Ambalada has engaged with Paraguayan authorities about possible strategic alliances in the agroindustrial sector.

Currently, Paraguay exports meat to over 60 countries worldwide including major markets like the United States and Russia. The potential entry into the Philippine market could diversify export destinations further while enhancing local production capabilities through new investments in technology and infrastructure.
