Karla Flores, the Director of InvestChile, participated in a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping as part of President Gabriel Boric's tour of Asia. The meeting took place at the Great Hall of the People and included discussions on strategic cooperation areas such as culture, energy transition, trade, and sustainable development.
President Boric emphasized Chile's commitment to free trade and multilateralism during the meeting. He stated, "in Chile, we hold the deep conviction that when trade is free and designed to improve the well-being of the people, and not just a few, it brings reciprocal benefits." He further highlighted Chile's dedication to maintaining relationships with various global regions including Europe, the United States, Asia-Pacific countries, China, and Latin America.
President Xi Jinping acknowledged the importance of China-Chile relations by saying, "this fully reflects the importance you attach to China-Chile relations," adding that both countries are "staunch defenders of multilateralism and free trade." He expressed readiness to deepen cooperation between China and Chile across various fields.
Flores also attended a meeting with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng at Diaoyutai State Guesthouse. Her participation in Boric’s Asian tour involved investment promotion activities in Japan and China. In Japan, she engaged with over 150 senior representatives from the local private sector. In China, she met with more than 30 executives from companies operating in or interested in entering the Chilean market.
The tour introduced Asian investors to a new Public Infrastructure Investment Opportunities Portal developed by InvestChile alongside the General Concessions Department. This multilingual platform presents project offerings from various sectors integrated into one format. It currently features information on 15 projects totaling over US$7.7 billion.
