Uruguay is set to participate in the second edition of Gamescom Latam, scheduled to take place in São Paulo, Brazil, from April 30 to May 4, 2025. This event has become a significant platform for the video game industry in Latin America following its expansion from the BIG Festival.
The national presence at the event will be coordinated by Uruguay XXI in partnership with the Uruguayan Chamber of Video Game Developers (CAVI) and the Uruguayan Film and Audiovisual Agency (ACAU) under the brand Uruguay Video Games. The delegation includes studios such as Batovi Games, Fireborne Games, Ironhide Game Studio, Mucho Games, Ultraton Studios, and Team Brunomir. These studios aim to showcase their developments to enhance Uruguay's international reputation in the gaming industry.
This participation aligns with Uruguay’s ongoing international promotion strategy. Recently, Uruguay attended the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2025 in San Francisco and made a notable impression at the first edition of Gamescom Latam in June 2024. During that event, three national video games received nominations in various categories.
Gamescom Latam 2025 will serve as an essential platform for generating new export opportunities and strengthening strategic contacts for Uruguay's gaming sector. Uruguay XXI will support participating companies and manage business meetings during the event.
Composer and sound designer Gonzalo Varela is scheduled to deliver a talk titled “Musical Adrenaline: Composing for Action and Combat Scenarios.” He will discuss challenges associated with composing music for action scenes using examples from his works like Fight’N Rage and Neon Inferno.
Batovi Games, established in Montevideo in 2005 and known for titles such as Charrúa Soccer and Pixel Cup Soccer: Ultimate Edition, will compete at Gamescom Latam 2025 with its project Slidemagi. This game is nominated for Best Game: Latin America 2025 due to its innovative turn-based strategy gameplay involving wizard-like players manipulating lines on a board to move units and cast spells using unique cards.
This nomination underscores Batovi Games' international standing while highlighting Uruguay's creative quality within its video game ecosystem. Participation in this event reinforces Uruguay’s growth trajectory within the video game industry, driven by strong technological infrastructure and creative talent positioning it as a leading force in Latin America's creative industries.
