Karla Flores, Director of InvestChile, was a keynote speaker at a business meeting in Osaka during President Gabriel Boric's visit to Japan and China. The tour focuses on cooperation between nations and investment opportunities in Chile.
President Boric's trip includes participation in the fourth ministerial meeting of the China-CELAC Forum, with activities scheduled in Tokyo, Osaka, and Beijing. In Tokyo, Boric met with Japan's Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba before heading to Osaka for the National Day of Chile at Expo Osaka. This event is part of a world fair where Chile is represented by the "Makün, the Mantle of Chile" pavilion.
President Boric stated that "Chile is the natural bridge between the Asia-Pacific and Latin America," emphasizing its stable business environment. During an afternoon business meeting chaired by President Boric, Karla Flores highlighted Chile’s macroeconomic performance and investment opportunities. She mentioned sectors such as green mining, critical minerals, renewable energy, green hydrogen—with recent announcements worth US$27 billion—and the digital economy as areas for potential growth.
Boric also spoke about collaboration opportunities in disaster prevention, clean energy, technology, and innovation. He noted that "the State must offer guarantees that the rules of the game are respected," inviting further economic partnership diversification.
The event featured speeches from Tatsushi Amano of Japan Bank for International Cooperation; Rosario Navarro from SOFOFA; and Takehiko Kakiuchi from Mitsubishi Corporation. They emphasized cooperation traditions between Japan and Chile and deeper dialogue needs between private sectors.
Japan stands as Chile's main Asian investor with over US$7.2 billion invested according to Banco Central figures. InvestChile has focused on this market since 2017 with an office based in Tokyo.
The presidential tour will continue in Beijing with more activities including a massive business meeting and InvestChile Talks event featuring Foreign Affairs Minister Alberto van Klaveren.
