Coca-Cola FEMSA has reaffirmed its dedication to sustainability and the circular economy through its recycling strategy, SUSTENTAPET. This initiative, highlighted on World Recycling Day, is designed to transform PET recycling in Latin America.
Julio César Sánchez, Collection Director at Coca-Cola FEMSA, emphasized the company's commitment: “At Coca-Cola FEMSA, we create the future by reaffirming our commitment to contribute to the circular economy through innovation, with a focus on sustainable design, reuse, and recycling of our packaging, as well as implementing actions for our operations to be zero waste.”
SUSTENTAPET aims to establish itself as the largest PET collection network in Latin America. It operates across countries where Coca-Cola FEMSA has a presence, featuring 43 PET collection centers and employing 550 direct employees. In 2024 alone, over 118,500 tons of PET were collected through this initiative.
The company collaborates with partners and facilities like IMER and PLANETA to recycle used bottles into high-quality recycled PET resin. During 2024, over 100,000 tons of recycled PET resin were incorporated into new bottle manufacturing.
A key aspect of SUSTENTAPET is collaboration with collectors. The “Reciclaje Motocargueros” program in Colombia provided motorized cargo vehicles to 240 collectors. Since 2002, Coca-Cola FEMSA has worked with Mexican NGO ECOCE to develop a solid PET market in Mexico.
On World Recycling Day, Coca-Cola FEMSA invites society and potential partners to join efforts for better waste management.
