Petrobras has announced the discovery of high-quality oil without contaminants in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin. The discovery was made at an exploratory well in the Aram block, located 248 kilometers from Santos, São Paulo, at a water depth of 1,952 meters. The drilling of well 3-BRSA-1396D-SPS has been completed, and the presence of oil was confirmed through electric profiles, gas indications, and fluid sampling.
"This is the second discovery in the same block, following the excellent result already achieved in another exploratory well earlier this year where we found high-quality oil. We are investing heavily in searching for new reserves and seeing results. This year, we have also announced discoveries in Brava and Búzios," said Petrobras President Magda Chambriard.
The consortium will begin laboratory analyses to characterize the conditions of the reservoirs and fluids found to evaluate the area's potential. Additionally, two more wells will be drilled, and a formation test will be conducted as part of the Discovery Evaluation Plan (PAD).
The PAD is set to conclude in 2027, with additional data acquisition activities possible according to planning and contractual obligations established with Brazil's National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP).
The Aram block was acquired in March 2020 during ANP's sixth bidding round under a Production Sharing regime, with Pré-Sal Petróleo S.A. (PPSA) as manager. Petrobras operates the block with an 80% stake alongside CNPC, which holds a 20% share.
