Cuenca, Ecuador, expects to open its tram line 2016.
Alstrom said the first of its 14 Citadis trams arrived in Cuenca, Ecuador, for the city's tramway system on Thursday.

Cuenca's tramway line will run 10.2 kilometers in each direction and will include 27 stations. The system is expected to open to the public in 2016.

The Citadis trams will be able to transport approximately 300 passengers. The trams are equipped with low floors and wide doors to allow for accessibility, especially for people with limited mobility.

To protect Cuenca’s architectural heritage, the new tramway will include a catenary-free section using the Alstrom engineers’ APS1 technology.

The Citadis trams for Cuenca are being produced at Alstrom facilities in La Rochelle, France.

Alstrom is currently managing the construction of eight tramway systems in countries that include Brazil, Australia, the U.K. and Qatar.
