WindStream Technologies, Inc. recently launched Phase 1 of its 2 megawatt commitment in Argentina, commissioning 500 kilowatts of its PowerMill wind product.
The PowerMill products make use of scaled down wind power devices where conventional large wind turbines do not meet the geographical or resource needs of the area.
Consisting of three rows of PowerMills, the Argentinian project will feed energy into the grid powering LED lighting along the Camino del Buen Ayre, the first sustainable highway of Latin America.
"This project represents the company's first foray into providing utility scale power to a grid and is a huge milestone for WindStream,” Travis Campbell, chief operating officer of WindStream, said. “This project has opened up our ability to meet the needs of our customers around the world that have asked for a utility scale product that harnesses both wind and solar resources in a single application.”
The Chamber of Electric Distribution Companies from the Province of Buenos Aires and the Government of the Province of Buenos Aires have supported the project.
"I am very happy to have been a part of the very first deployment of the PowerMill in the world at our (sustainable highway) and look forward to our next project of 1MW in the city of San Nicolas de los Arroyos," Christian Schiano, CEO of Aurland Technologies, said.
Surland is WindStream's distributor in Argentina.
