State Department names finalists for design of U.S. Embassy in Brazil

The U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO) has selected six design firms in Part One of its two-stage selection process for the building of the new U.S. Embassy Compound in Brasilia, Brazil.

The firms on the shortlist are Diller; Scofidio and Renfro; Morphosis Architects; Pelli, Clade, Pelli Architects; Rafael Vinoly Architects; Steven Holl Architects; and Studio Gang Architects. Originally, 48 firms were accepted for consideration for the project.

In the second stage of the selection process, the shortlisted firms will assemble their technical teams and submit qualifications for evaluation.

OBO’s mission is to provide safe, secure and functional facilities that represent the U.S. government to the host nation and support staff in the achievement of U.S. foreign policy objectives. These facilities represent U.S. values and the best in U.S. architecture, engineering, technology, sustainability, art, culture and construction execution.
