MegaStorage in Panama will receive upgrades soon in the form of solar power capabilities at all three of its facilities.
OTEPI Renewables, an engineering firm, and UGE International Ltd., a renewable-energy provider, will provide the custom photovoltaic systems that will soon off put at least 30 percent of the electricity MegaStorage uses to power its facilities.
"In choosing to use solar, we reduce our electricity expenses, avoid the volatile price of electricity, and show a commitment toward the environment," MegaStorage General Manager Orlando Wong said. "We are proud to be pioneers in the self-storage industry in Latin America, generating on-site electricity through solar modules."
MegaStorage hopes to do its small part in increasing the renewable energy sources that businesses in Central America use. OTEPI and UGE have 25 commercial sites under development in Panama and neighboring countries.
"Together, UGE and OTEPI offer businesses in Panama the ability to immediately lower their energy bills with on-site solar,"
Frank Schreiber, UGE's head of business development in Panama, said. "We've already seen evidence of the rapid growth of distributed generation. Through this strong partnership, we are confident that we can meet this growing demand and continue to lead in the deployment of renewables across the country."
