Juan Pablo Guanipa, a political leader in Venezuela, has been released from prison after being detained for over eight months by the interim regime. His family had limited information about his health and whereabouts during his imprisonment. Guanipa was not allowed legal representation of his choice and lacked basic due process rights.
His son, Ramón Guanipa, expressed relief at his father’s release but emphasized that their struggle continues. “Today, for the first time in months, my siblings and I will finally be able to hug our father once again,” he said. “Although this is a moment of profound happiness for my family, we will not be at ease until absolutely all political prisoners held by Chavismo are freed.”
Juan Pablo Guanipa was captured on May 23, 2025, after ten months in hiding following his involvement in defending Venezuelan democracy on July 28, 2024. The family remains committed to advocating for the release of all political prisoners and the restoration of freedom and democracy in Venezuela.
