Uruguay will participate in the 63rd edition of the Bologna Children’s Book Fair from April 13 to 16, marking its return to this major event after previous appearances in 2019 and 2022. The national presence is coordinated by Uruguay XXI together with the National Directorate of Culture of the Ministry of Education and Culture.

The participation is part of a broader effort to strengthen Uruguay’s creative industries internationally, expand the circulation of works, and foster connections with global industry stakeholders. The Bologna Children’s Book Fair is recognized as a central hub for rights trading and trend identification, bringing together more than 26,000 professionals each year.

Uruguay will host a country stand located in the Latin American pavilion (Hall 29, stand C28D27), funded by Uruguay XXI. This space will serve as both an exhibition area and meeting point for business discussions while promoting children’s literature, national illustration, and translation initiatives through programs like IDA. The selection at the stand includes award-winning works from recent years such as winners of the National Illustration Award (2025), National Literature Awards (2024–2025), Bartolomé Hidalgo Awards (2024–2025), Juan Carlos Onetti Literary Contest (2024–2025), and projects supported by Competitive Funds and FEFCA Scholarships.

An open call enabled publishers and illustrators who have published titles over the past five years to participate. These companies are also featured in Uruguay XXI’s International Buyers Catalog aimed at increasing visibility for exportable content.

Notable highlights include Editorial Morisqueta’s “Las canciones de Naracha,” selected among top titles for display at BRAW Amazing Bookshelf exhibition featuring works from around the world. Illustrator Nathalie Beauvois was named a finalist in this year’s Illustrators Exhibition—one of over 4,000 submissions—which grants her access to portfolio reviews with international experts.

The Uruguay stand will showcase illustrations by Nino Fernández alongside other notable artists included in Uruguay XXI’s catalog. Publishers such as Amanuense, Alter Ediciones, Gigantes, Criatura, Morisqueta, FCU, Penguin Random House, and Ediciones del Garage are also participating with their works. Through this initiative Uruguay aims not only to present its artistic quality but also create a unified visual identity that enhances engagement with international visitors.
