The United States and Chile reaffirmed their commitment to work together to protect the environment at the seventh meeting of the United States – Chile Free Trade Agreement (FTA) Environmental Affairs Council (Council) and the fifth meeting of the United States – Chile Environmental Cooperation Agreement Joint Commission for Environmental Cooperation (Commission) on Aug. 13 in Washington, D.C.
Hosted by the commission and council members, the session allowed members of the public to engage with government officials on implementation of the FTA Environment Chapter and Environmental Cooperation Agreement. Judith G. Garber, acting assistant secretary of state for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs; Jennifer Prescott, assistant U.S. trade representative for Environment and Natural Resources; Waldemar Coutts, director of Environment and Maritime Affairs, Chile Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Angelica Romero, head of Energy, Trade and Sustainable Development, Chile Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Directorate of International Economic Relations, delivered opening remarks.
