The Corporación Eléctrica del Ecuador (CELEC EP) announced on April 1 that its Termogas Machala business unit has completed scheduled maintenance on the TM1 generation unit, which has a capacity of 20 megawatts. The work is part of preventive planning aimed at keeping equipment in optimal condition and ensuring continuous and reliable electricity generation for the country.
According to CELEC EP, professionals carried out inspections of both electrical and mechanical systems for the turbine, generator, and auxiliary equipment. The team also checked sensors, motors, control systems, fuel supply, ventilation, and cooling systems to prevent potential failures and ensure safe operation.
A technical highlight of the maintenance was a boroscopic inspection. This procedure involves inserting a special camera into the turbine to observe internal components that are otherwise difficult to access. According to CELEC EP’s statement, this allows early detection of wear or minor anomalies so that preventive corrections can be made before major damage occurs.
The manufacturer recommends such maintenance every six months. In addition to technical inspections and component checks, the work included reviewing safety systems, changing filters, inspecting key parts, and conducting comprehensive verification of control and operation systems.
CELEC EP said it continues working to keep its generation units operational in order to support stability in the national electricity supply.
