Subsecretary of Fisheries and Aquaculture Osvaldo Urrutia announced on March 20 the start of a series of meetings with representatives from the National Confederation of Artisanal Fishermen of Chile (Conapach) and the National Corporation of Women in Artisanal Fishing.
The initiative aims to provide certainty to all stakeholders in the fishing and aquaculture sectors, while considering different perspectives and making decisions that protect public interest and sustainable development.
The meetings are being held under the Lobby Law framework, which emphasizes transparency, integrity, and equitable access to authorities. These discussions address key issues for artisanal fishing and aquaculture. In particular, the meeting with the National Network of Women in Artisanal Fishing focused on gender equity, adding value to seafood products, strengthening related activities, and highlighting women’s contributions to the production chain.
During talks with Conapach, topics included ensuring continuity for artisanal workers by advancing legal certainty and improving participation mechanisms.
Urrutia also reiterated his willingness to maintain ongoing dialogue with various organizations in the fishing and aquaculture fields to promote growth within clear rules that support sustainability and competitiveness. He is scheduled to begin his agenda with the aquaculture sector by attending AquaSur next week in Puerto Montt.
