Slidemagi, a video game developed by Uruguayan studio Batovi Games, has been nominated for the Best Game: Latin America 2025 category at Gamescom Latam. The event, which is a significant gathering in the gaming industry across Latin America, was held in São Paulo, Brazil. This nomination highlights Slidemagi’s international presence and underscores Uruguay’s growing influence in the global gaming sector.

Uruguay’s participation in Gamescom Latam was organized by Uruguay XXI, along with the Uruguayan Chamber of Video Game Developers (CAVI) and the Uruguayan Film and Audiovisual Agency (ACAU), under the brand Uruguay Video Games. Batovi Games was among six Uruguayan studios present at the event. Slidemagi attracted attention for its unique mechanics as a turn-based strategy game. “When you slide a row, you shift the line, including enemies, objects, and terrain,” explained Fernando Sansberro, founder of Batovi Games.

The event provided Batovi with valuable feedback from both players and industry professionals as they prepare to release Slidemagi to a wider audience. Sansberro noted that he gained important insights from observing people play the game. Additionally, Batovi strengthened connections with platforms such as Steam, Xbox, and Apple during their time at Gamescom Latam.

Uruguay’s involvement in this event further solidified its status as a hub of creative talent within Latin America. “It’s hard to imagine international events without Uruguayan representatives nowadays,” said Sansberro. He also acknowledged the institutional support received from organizations like Uruguay XXI.

Batovi Games continues to develop its football-themed games while planning to expand Slidemagi onto new platforms. With strong talent and infrastructure backing it up, Uruguay is positioning itself as an emerging player in tech industries aimed at international markets.
