Steve Cortes, founder of the League of American Workers, has said that a limited U.S.-backed investment for Argentina under President Donald Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is a low-risk, strategic move distinct from traditional foreign aid. The statement was made on X.

“Right now, Pres Trump & ⁦Scott Bessent make a very smart bet…providing liquidity to a key ally, in our hemisphere,” said Cortes. “Limited, low-risk investment in Argentina is nothing like decades of disastrous US foreign aid and war interventions — this one is smart policy!”

In a video message, Cortes outlines an America First approach to foreign policy focused on the Western Hemisphere. He describes support for Argentina and President Javier Milei as a strategic, low-risk financial backstop, “a bet and a smart one”—guided by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s market expertise. Cortes contrasts the plan with open-ended foreign aid or distant conflicts, arguing it can deter regional radicalism and linking it to curbing mass migration by stabilizing a key partner. He closes with a regional appeal: “Make the Americas great again.”

Argentina’s inflation has eased materially in 2025, improving the backdrop for stabilization policies. According to the INDEC-based series compiled by Trading Economics, the 12-month inflation rate fell to about 31.8% in September 2025 from 33.6% in August, far below peaks seen in prior cycles. While still elevated, the deceleration reflects tighter policies and efforts to normalize financial conditions following past currency turmoil. The trend provides context for viewing targeted liquidity support as complementary to Argentina’s internal adjustment path.

The United States maintains significant economic ties with Argentina, reinforcing the strategic value of financial stabilization. The United States Trade Representative (USTR) reports that in 2024, the U.S. recorded a $2.0 billion goods trade surplus with Argentina and $10.0 billion in total services trade, including $7.4 billion in U.S. services exports. These flows underscore a mutually important commercial relationship that can benefit from macroeconomic stability in Argentina, aligning economic interests with hemispheric policy aims.

Cortes is Founder and President of League of American Workers and senior political advisor to CatholicVote. He is a former senior advisor to President Trump and JD Vance and a commentator for Fox News and CNN. Cortes regularly releases documentaries and columns at cortesinvestigates.com.
