More than 26,000 residents in Bolívar province are expected to benefit from the launch of four new Free Digital Points (Puntos Digitales Gratuitos, PDG). These facilities aim to improve access to technology and digital services for local communities. The initiative is part of President Daniel Noboa’s commitment to enhance technological solutions across Ecuador.
The Vice Minister of Information and Communication Technologies, Ricardo Gutiérrez, officially announced the opening during his visit to the province. The new digital centers are located in Santa Rosa de Totoras, Ungubí, and Las Guardias in San Miguel canton, as well as Vinchoa Grande in Guaranda. Residents will be able to access digital tools, participate in training courses, and use online government services at these sites.
Through this inauguration we are taking another step toward reducing the technology gap, especially in places that have historically been forgotten. This is a government that delivers on its promises and firmly believes that providing knowledge and training tools means offering opportunities that drive the development of Ecuadorian families”).
With these additions, Bolívar now has a total of 26 Free Digital Points. The region continues its efforts toward digital inclusion and aims to strengthen technological skills among children, youth, adults, and seniors.
Nationally, Free Digital Points have recorded 9.7 million visits and more than 544 thousand training sessions since November 2023. These numbers reflect their growing impact on digital education and empowerment throughout Ecuador.
The government states it remains committed to expanding access to technology through initiatives like these PDGs as part of its broader effort to transform Ecuador’s digital future.
