Petrobras announced that the FPSO Almirante Tamandaré, operating in the Búzios field in the pre-salt Santos Basin, reached a record instantaneous output of 270,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd) on Saturday, October 25. The platform’s average production during October has exceeded 250,000 bpd, surpassing its nominal capacity of 225,000 bpd.
The company stated that the platform, which is chartered from SBM Offshore, was designed with operational margins allowing it to reach up to 270,000 bpd at certain times without requiring modifications.
According to Petrobras, this initiative is part of broader efforts to boost production through efficiency improvements. “All these actions follow strict safety protocols and are preceded by thorough engineering analyses and the necessary approvals from regulatory agencies,” Petrobras said.
The FPSO Almirante Tamandaré is part of the Búzios 7 Project and represents the sixth system in the Búzios field to become operational. The company expects this will help raise total output at Búzios to one million barrels per day by year-end. Petrobras also noted that Búzios is expected soon to become its largest producing field.
In addition to the Almirante Tamandaré platform, the Búzios 7 Project includes subsea infrastructure such as pipelines and wells. This week, it will receive the OTC Brasil Distinguished Achievement Award for Companies from the Offshore Technology Conference—an event recognized globally for its focus on offshore oil and gas technology.
