Petrobras has announced the discovery of high-quality oil in the post-salt layer of the Campos Basin. The finding was made at exploratory well 4-BRSA-1403D-RJS, located 108 kilometers off the coast of Campos dos Goitacazes, Rio de Janeiro state, at a water depth of 734 meters.
The drilling process for this well has been completed. According to Petrobras, “the oil-bearing interval was confirmed through electric logs, gas indications and fluid sampling.” The company stated that these samples will be sent for laboratory analysis to determine the characteristics of the reservoirs and fluids found. This will allow further assessment of the area’s potential.
The Southwest Tartaruga Verde block, where the discovery was made, was acquired in September 2018 during Brazil’s fifth Production Sharing Round. Pré-Sal Petróleo S.A. (PPSA) manages the block, while Petrobras operates it with full ownership. Petrobras added: “These samples will subsequently undergo laboratory analyses, which will allow us to characterize the conditions of the reservoirs and fluids found, enabling continued evaluation of the area’s potential.”
