Peru-based Enel SpA said in a release that Russia recently awarded two wind power projects to its subsidiary, PJSC Enel Russia, and the projects will be managed and constructed by the Enel Green Power division.

The two plants, the Azov wind farm in the Rostov region in southern Russia and the Murmansk wind farm northwest of Russia, are expected to be operational in 2020 and 2021, with installed capacities of 90 and 201 megawatts (MW), respectively.

“We are very satisfied with this result as we wish to actively contribute to the Russian transition towards a greener future,” Enel Green Power CEO Antonio Cammisecra said in the release. “The country’s renewable potential is impressive and still underexploited. We see the outcome of this tender as the starting point for a sustainable wind industry in Russia that benefits the environment as well as for the full development of a renewable value chain in the country. We can tap into this enormous potential through our unique global experience in green energy and our 10 years of experience in the Russian market.”

The investment in the two wind power farms is more than $45 million, the release said. The energy will be sold on the wholesale market.

Enel Russia also operates four thermal power plants in the Russian Federation.
