The Ministry of Public Health has invested USD 114,994.69 to equip the San Luis de Otavalo Hospital with a modern C-arm imaging device. This move aims to strengthen the hospital’s surgical capacity and improve healthcare services for residents in Otavalo, neighboring towns, and throughout Imbabura province.
According to officials, this advanced equipment allows real-time radiological imaging during surgeries, which enhances precision in the operating room, increases patient safety, and improves outcomes—particularly in trauma surgeries. Before the device became operational, staff from radiology, traumatology, and nursing departments received specialized training to ensure its safe and effective use.
The first patient to benefit from the new technology was Magdalena, who underwent a total knee replacement surgery. Her recovery is progressing well.
Government representatives stated that this investment reflects their ongoing commitment to strengthening Ecuador’s public health network by introducing advanced technology and trained personnel.
