More than ten municipalities in the Metropolitan Region have signed an agreement with the Ministry of Economy, Development and Tourism to implement the Pyme Ágil platform. The ceremony, held at INACAP’s Renca campus auditorium, brought together ministry officials, mayors, business associations, and entrepreneurs to discuss initiatives supporting local economies and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).
Twelve municipalities—Vitacura, San José de Maipo, San Ramón, Pirque, Huechuraba, San Joaquín, Isla de Maipo, El Bosque, Independencia, Maria Pinto, Estación Central and La Florida—joined the Pyme Ágil program by signing a collaboration agreement with the ministry. Renca and Cerrillos reaffirmed their ongoing participation.
Pyme Ágil is a digital platform that allows MSMEs to apply for their municipal commercial license online without in-person procedures or associated costs. According to Álvaro García Hurtado, Minister of Economy, Development and Tourism and Energy: “Currently, 73 municipalities have signed their collaboration agreement to operate Pyme Ágil, and today more than 10 new municipalities are joining this effort. And the results speak for themselves: when the State works with municipalities and modernizes with a territorial focus, SMEs formalize faster, work more safely and can concentrate on what really matters: growing, hiring staff, innovating and contributing to the local economy.”
Claudio Castro, mayor of Renca stated: “Tools such as Pyme Ágil and the Framework Law on Sectoral Authorizations—together with our Investment Agency—aim exactly at this: that a company wishing to come to Renca has clear rules, technical support and digital processes that reduce waiting times. Our commitment is to build a municipality that is not an obstacle but a partner for innovation, entrepreneurship and quality job creation for our neighbors.”
The event also addressed benefits from the Framework Law on Sectoral Authorizations for MSMEs; these include reducing processing times by up to 70%.
Lucas Palacios—the rector of INACAP—commented: “At INACAP we know that formalization, digitization and support are key tools for those who decide to undertake ventures—especially in a society marked by constant technological evolution. All efforts are important; at INACAP we have promoted several initiatives that help along this path—transforming ideas into concrete projects generating jobs and social mobility—such as 25 Crea Empresas spaces across our campuses nationwide; 12 business development centers we operate throughout Chile; or our free online course Hotel SET. It is very satisfying to participate in this activity because when we support formal entrepreneurship we strengthen both local and national economies.”
To ensure successful implementation in each municipality participating in Pyme Ágil program activities include staff training sessions provided by the Ministry of Economy as well as technical assistance during operation.
The process for MSMEs involves three steps: forming a company or partnership; registering business activities with Chile’s Internal Revenue Service (SII); then obtaining a municipal license. With Pyme Ágil integrated into the Companies Registry (RES), all steps can be completed online via one web platform—reducing paperwork while storing all documents centrally.
