The Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture has provided construction materials worth USD 11,333 to support infrastructure improvements at 16 public schools in the Arenillas – Huaquillas – Las Lajas district in El Oro province. The materials include 270 bags of cement and 31 units of welded mesh, which will be used for projects such as building a sports field at Unidad Educativa “Provincia de Tungurahua” in partnership with the GAD Parroquial El Paraíso.
Lissbeth Aponte, an educational leader at Unidad Educativa “Huaquillas,” said: “We appreciate this effort, which will allow us to improve the chemistry laboratory and, most importantly, upgrade the sewage system—a priority project for our school.”
Gina Coronel, director of Unidad Educativa “11 de Noviembre,” stated: “This contribution is vital for facing the winter season. We will prevent water leaks in classrooms, ensuring that our students receive lessons in a dry and safe environment.”
Fernando Carrión, a student beneficiary, expressed: “We are very grateful. With these materials we will build an educational roof that will protect us from rain and allow us to study more comfortably and safely.”
Favio Villamizar, zonal coordinator for Education Zone 7, emphasized that these actions are part of a broader improvement plan: “Our priority is to strengthen teaching spaces. Each technical improvement directly translates into a better quality of life and stronger learning for students throughout Zone 7.”
According to the ministry’s announcement, these investments are part of ongoing government efforts to improve school infrastructure as a foundation for academic development.
