The Ministry of Economy, Development and Tourism has presented a strategic roadmap for sustainable productive development in the commune of La Higuera. The event took place at the Municipal Theater of La Higuera and was led by Paulina Elgueta Castillo, the regional secretary for Economy, Development and Tourism in Coquimbo.
The document, titled “Hoja de Ruta para el Desarrollo Productivo Sostenible de La Higuera,” was officially handed over to Mayor Uberlinda Aquea. It outlines key value chains with growth potential in areas such as sustainable tourism, artisanal fishing, and low-water-use agriculture.
During the meeting, a review of ministerial management from 2022 to 2026 was presented. Regional representatives from Corfo, Sercotec, and Sernatur shared results from their funding programs and initiatives in the commune. Notably, between 2023 and 2024, Corfo and Sercotec financed projects totaling more than 332 million pesos. This investment directly benefited 238 local entrepreneurs and microenterprises.
Representatives from the Regional Government of Coquimbo also participated. They discussed the scope of the Zonas en Desarrollo program and efforts under the Plan Elqui-Limarí to reduce development gaps in La Higuera. The plan aims to promote comprehensive territorial development that improves residents’ quality of life while respecting both the ecosystem and rural identity.
According to organizers, “With this activity led by Seremi Paulina Elgueta, territorial governance is strengthened along with public-private coordination necessary to project La Higuera as a hub for sustainable development, integrating its natural resources, cultural heritage, and innovation capacity in traditional productive sectors.”
