The Ministry of Telecommunications and the Information Society has received recognition for its flagship project, Free Digital Points (Puntos Digitales Gratuitos, PDG), at the Exemplary Practices Ecuador 2025 competition. The event was organized by Corporación Líderes para Gobernar.

The PDG initiative was awarded in the Digital Transformation category. According to the ministry, this project stands out among initiatives that encourage innovation, equitable access to technology, and community development across Ecuador.

PDG centers provide free internet access and offer citizens training in more than 400 topics related to information and communication technologies. There are currently 978 PDG locations nationwide. Between November 23, 2023, and November 2025, these centers have registered over 9.7 million visits and have provided training to more than half a million people.

According to the ministry, “This recognition highlights government efforts to bring technology closer to remote areas with limited internet access, thereby reducing the digital divide.”
