The Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture marked World Soil Day on December 5 by launching the initiative “Recreo Verde: Journey to Sustainable Knowledge – Guardians of the Soil.” The program aims to encourage students and the wider educational community to reflect on responsible consumption and how daily practices can help mitigate climate change and protect soil health.
“Recreo Verde” was open to students from public, municipal, fiscomisional, and private schools across both Costa–Galápagos and Sierra–Amazonía regions. The initiative involved collaboration among teachers, students, and families at a national level.
Activities under this program took place between December 5 and December 19. One event was held in person at Unidad Educativa Fiscal Alfredo Cisneros in Quito’s District 17D02, attended by officials from the Subsecretariat of Education, Sport and Culture of Quito.
According to the Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture: “With these activations, the Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture fosters environmental awareness in the educational community, empowering students as guardians of the soil.”
