Ministry extends bid deadline for Cuenca–Molleturo–El Empalme road rehabilitation

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT) has announced an extension for the submission deadline of bids for the rehabilitation project of the Cuenca – Molleturo – El Empalme road. The new deadline is set for December 10, 2025, at 09:00.

This project, funded by the World Bank under Loan No. 9555-EC, aims to ensure continuity and safety along a key corridor connecting the Sierra and Costa regions. The planned work includes rehabilitating 113 kilometers of roadway, improving critical points, and enhancing road safety with attention to water management, stability, and signage.

According to MIT, “the design incorporates engineering solutions aligned with international standards while maintaining a practical and competitive approach that facilitates participation from various bidders.” The ministry also states that “the work will comply with environmental and social parameters appropriate to the sensitive areas crossed by this corridor.”

MIT emphasized confidentiality regarding the reference amount for this contract. In line with World Bank Procurement Regulations, disclosure of this figure is not permitted during procurement processes under this framework. According to MIT, this confidentiality ensures “free and fair competition among bidders,” “transparency in the process,” and “obtaining best value for money for the Ecuadorian state.”
