The Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture has concluded the 2025 cycle of its “Actívate” and “Vamos a la Cancha” programs in the provinces of Loja and Zamora Chinchipe. These initiatives have reached over 5,500 participants this year.

The “Actívate” program encourages regular physical activity in neighborhoods, communities, and parks through active points. Meanwhile, “Vamos a la Cancha” focuses on recreational sports for children and adolescents aged 5 to 17 who are in vulnerable situations.

Rosa Valencia, a participant in Actívate, said: “It is an excellent project that allows us to stay healthy. There are people with health problems and through physical activity we feel rejuvenated. It is a magnificent idea because sport fills us with life.”

Favio Villamizar, zonal coordinator for Zone 7 at the Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture, stated: “Today is not the end but the beginning of a new commitment to continue promoting physical activity, values, and unity among all citizens. We will work so that the Actívate and Vamos a la Cancha services continue in every neighborhood, parish, canton, reaching every point to encourage healthy spaces.”

In Zamora Chinchipe province about 1,000 people benefited from these programs during the year. In Loja province more than 4,500 children, youth and adults participated.

The Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport announced plans to expand these programs’ coverage for 2026 through its Vice Ministry of Sport. The public policy aims to reduce sedentary lifestyles, strengthen physical and emotional health, and build more active communities across Ecuador.
