The Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Roberto Luque, visited Chimborazo province to review the progress of two major projects: the rehabilitation of the Balbanera – Pallatanga – Cumandá road and a social housing initiative in Pallatanga.

Luque was accompanied by Governor María José del Pozo, technical staff, and local authorities during the inspection. The road project is part of a Maintenance by Results (MPR) process covering 106.69 kilometers. It focuses on restoring critical points along the route.

The contract for this work was awarded to Consorcio Balbanera Cumandá. The project has an investment exceeding USD 47 million and aims to ensure safe and functional transportation infrastructure. Work includes sealing cracks, minor patching, addressing critical areas, horizontal and vertical signage, slope stabilization, installation of culverts, paving, and routine maintenance. The project is expected to create about 180 direct jobs and 300 indirect jobs in the area.

The construction will last for 45 months and is financed by CAF (Development Bank of Latin America) under its Service Level Conservation Program.

“The works are being carried out and strengthen the main connectivity route between Sierra Centro and Costa. The commitment of the Government of Nuevo Ecuador fulfills and implements technical solutions that improve citizens’ quality of life,” said Luque.

During his visit, Luque also reviewed progress at the Pallatanga Housing Project. This initiative provides homes for 60 families with an investment of USD 1.5 million. It consists of five buildings with twelve apartments each as well as spaces for entrepreneurship activities, communal areas, and green spaces.

According to officials, these projects aim to build a more connected, safe, and efficient country.
