The María de Jesús Flores Mendoza Arts Conservatory in El Oro province is set to graduate its first class of arts students on March 11, 2026. This marks a milestone for the institution and the region’s cultural development after nearly ten years since its founding.
The inaugural group consists of 11 students, with nine specializing in dance and two in music. The graduates have completed an extensive academic journey that required them to balance general education with artistic training. Music students finished 11 years of study, including courses such as musical language, orchestra, harmony, and proficiency in their main instrument. Dance specialists underwent nine years of training covering classical dance technique, modern-contemporary styles, multicultural techniques, and various theoretical subjects.
He also noted that the faculty has grown from six teachers at its inception to 18 specialized instructors.
Annie Gordillo, a graduating dance student, reflected on being part of the founding generation: “Estamos felices de terminar estos años de estudio que tuvieron altos y bajos; sin embargo, gracias a nuestra pasión, pudimos enfrentar esos obstáculos.”
Romina Castañeda expressed her satisfaction at being among the first music graduates: “Ha sido un proceso de mucha dedicación, me siento muy feliz de alcanzar este logro.”
The Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture reiterated its commitment to strengthening complementary arts education as a key component for comprehensive development among Ecuadorian children and youth.
