The Escuela de Educación Básica Manuel Matheus, located in the rural Santa Marianita neighborhood of Nanegal, has recently undergone a series of improvements aimed at enhancing educational quality. The work was carried out in collaboration with Unidos por la Educación and its strategic partners.
The upgrades addressed infrastructure, equipment, and pedagogical support to create better conditions for the school’s 36 students and three teachers. Educational authorities attended the handover ceremony alongside students and staff. They emphasized that every improvement made reflects a strong commitment to strengthening education at the local level and ensuring safe and suitable learning environments.
More than $38,000 was invested in these projects through financial backing from Unidos por la Educación’s strategic allies. The renovations included roof and wall repairs, bathroom maintenance, improvements to green areas, furniture upkeep, as well as providing Montessori resources and training in active teaching methodologies. These efforts are intended to enhance school governance and academic standards.
Student representative Camilo Hurtado expressed his satisfaction with the renovated patios and classrooms: “With the commitment to take care of every space in our institution, I am very happy to see our playgrounds and classrooms renewed and ready to learn with the usual dedication and responsibility.”
A statement from the Ministry of Education highlighted their ongoing efforts: “From the Ministry of Education, Sports, and Culture, we promote coordination between public and private sectors to strengthen rural education systems with innovation and quality. The delivery of this project represents commitment, joint work, and a clear vision for transformation.”
