The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT) has opened the first bridge of the Lodana road project, located on State Road Network E462B between Portoviejo, Santa Ana, and Honorato Vásquez in Manabí province. This bridge is one of two structures included in a larger project aimed at improving connectivity among several cantons in the region.
The newly opened bridge measures 10.25 meters wide and 35 meters long. According to MIT, its construction involved specialized engineering work such as installing foundation piles—17 for each abutment—and assembling a deck made of reinforced concrete slabs with a thickness of 20 centimeters, supported by six California-type beams measuring 1.55 meters high. These features are designed to ensure the stability and safety of the structure.
Following this opening, demolition work will begin on the old bridge, and construction will start on the second viaduct along with its access points. The entire project represents an investment exceeding USD 7 million. Funding comes from resources allocated by the Committee for Reconstruction and Productive Reactivation of Manabí and Esmeraldas through the Solidarity Law.
“Let us remember that this project is viable thanks to President Daniel Noboa’s determination to allocate resources directly to citizens, even when these were considered lost,” said José Ángel Dueñas, manager of the Reconstruction Committee.
This infrastructure is seen as essential for local connectivity among Portoviejo, Santa Ana, 24 de Mayo, and Olmedo cantons. It also aims to support mobility for various productive communities in the area. MIT asks drivers using this route to exercise caution and follow posted signs while construction continues as planned.
The government states that through MIT it remains committed to road improvements in Manabí and national development with projects intended to enhance residents’ quality of life.
