The Internal Revenue Service (SRI) and the University of Otavalo have opened a new Accounting and Tax Support Center (NAF) in Imbabura. The center aims to provide free advice on accounting and tax matters to individuals not required to keep formal accounts and to micro-entrepreneurs.
The initiative is part of an inter-institutional cooperation agreement between SRI and the university. According to the announcement, students and professors from the Business Sciences program at the University of Otavalo, who have received training from SRI technicians, will offer free guidance to the public.
The NAF is located on Av. de los Sarances and Pendoneros, on the ground floor of the University of Otavalo building. It will be open Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
SRI stated that it continues to establish agreements with other higher education institutions in order to support tax education for citizens. Universities involved in these partnerships reaffirm their commitment to community engagement as part of their social responsibility.
According to SRI, “The Núcleos de Apoyo Contable y Fiscal (NAF) are the result of an alliance between the higher education system and the Tax Administration to strengthen fiscal citizenship and promote social cohesion through quality technical and personalized support that encourages voluntary compliance by taxpayers.”
