Children receiving hospital-based education at the IESS General Hospital “Manuel Ignacio Monteros” in Loja participated in a Christmas event that blended festive activities with educational support. The event, designed for young patients in the hospital’s educational program, included theatrical performances, Christmas carols, and games with holiday characters.

The celebration was supported by various partner organizations that contributed gifts to the children. Organizers aimed to make the hospital environment more positive for young patients and their families during the holiday season.

Johanna Sánchez, District Director of Education for Loja, emphasized inter-institutional collaboration: “It is an honor that the Manuel Ignacio Monteros Hospital hosts this service from the Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture. Our objective is to accompany children and adolescents so that education does not stop, guaranteeing their right to learning under any circumstance.”

The National Model for Hospital and Home-Based Educational Management aims to ensure access to education for students who are ill or undergoing prolonged medical treatment. This approach provides personalized instruction so that health conditions do not interrupt learning.

Claudia Cuenca, a teacher in the program, commented on her commitment: “We thank those who make this gathering possible; it is not just a celebration but also a demonstration of solidarity and dedication as professionals and as human beings toward our children.”

Irene Ortiz, mother of one of the beneficiaries, shared her appreciation: “More than the value of a gift, it is this gesture of love that fills our hearts. Seeing a smile on our children’s faces is most important for us. My infinite gratitude goes to doctors, nurses and teachers for their patience and dedication in such special situations.”

Organizers stated that cooperation among government ministries, healthcare institutions and community members enables resilient educational environments where all students have opportunities despite challenges.
