The Corporación Eléctrica del Ecuador (CELEC EP) is carrying out scheduled maintenance at the Guangopolo Thermal Complex in the Valle de los Chillos, Pichincha province. These actions are intended to ensure the operational readiness and strengthen the national electricity system.
At Guangopolo I Power Plant, major maintenance is being performed on Generation Unit No. 1, which has a capacity of 5.3 megawatts (MW). The plant’s total effective output is 21.8 MW. According to CELEC EP, “the work, which is progressing according to the established technical schedule, will be completed in January 2026.”
Simultaneously, Guangopolo II Thermal Plant is undergoing scheduled maintenance on Generation Unit No. 4 after reaching 6,000 hours of operation. This work is expected to finish in December of this year. Guangopolo II has an installed capacity of 48.6 MW distributed across six generating units of 8.1 MW each.
The maintenance activities at both plants include technical inspections, disassembly of critical components, replacement of spare parts, review of auxiliary systems and operational testing. These procedures are intended to keep each unit meeting safety, quality and energy efficiency standards.
“In accordance with guidelines from the National Government,” CELEC EP stated, “CELEC EP continues its commitment to keep the Guangopolo Thermal Park operational with all its installed capacity ready to enter service when required by the National Interconnected System.”
