Natalio Mario Grinman, president of the Cámara Argentina de Comercio y Servicios (CAC), spoke at a meeting organized by the Rotary Club of Buenos Aires on November 26. During his address, Grinman discussed employment, investment, and economic activity in Argentina from his perspective as a business leader.
Grinman highlighted challenges faced by businesses in the country. He stated, “In the last thirteen years, only 187,000 jobs were created in the private sector, compared to more than 800,000 in the public sector. And many wonder why companies do not hire more workers. The answer is simple: it is very difficult to generate employment when there is no trust, when the rules of the game change every day, when a company can be blocked and justice does not act, even though it has tools to do so.”
Addressing potential solutions, Grinman emphasized the need for labor modernization to support economic development. He said, “A labor modernization is essential but will not generate employment overnight. It requires time and predictability. We are a country where not even we Argentines trust our own currency: we have changed our monetary sign five times in 130 years. Without stability and without trust there is no sustained investment.”
He also commented on recent legislative measures: “In a normal country it is not necessary to create a special regime like RIGI: clear legal and economic rules are enough. While large investments move forward, smaller ones still do not feel protected enough to develop. Creating jobs quickly is not impossible but very complex in a context where lack of trust, instability and judicial burdens slow growth.”
Grinman concluded his remarks with optimism about opportunities arising from the new political and economic direction set by President Javier Milei’s government.
