The Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture (MINEDEC) has announced the first call for the 2026 Merit and Opposition Competition. This initiative invites teachers who are eligible in the specialty of Second to Seventh Grade of Basic General Education (EGB) to participate. The process is part of a public policy aimed at strengthening the public education system through selection mechanisms that are based on merit, technical criteria, and transparency.

Registration for the competition will be open from February 2 to February 9 via the official website www.educacion.gob.ec.

A total of 1,000 positions will be available nationwide. This offers an opportunity for education professionals to join the public teaching sector under principles of equal opportunity and professional excellence.

Applicants must meet several requirements:

– Be Ecuadorian and over 18 years old, or a foreigner according to regulations established in the Organic Law of Public Service and current legislation.
– Hold a third or fourth level degree in education, duly registered and recognized by MINEDEC.
– Be listed in the registry of eligible candidates.
– Certify that they are not subject to any general or special prohibitions established by law.

According to MINEDEC, “The opening of new positions directly contributes to strengthening job stability and consolidating permanent teaching teams in educational institutions.”

The ministry also stated: “These actions are part of the teacher appreciation policy promoted by the National Government, recognizing teachers as key actors for social and productive development in the country.”

MINEDEC reaffirmed its commitment with another statement: “MINEDEC reaffirms its commitment to quality, inclusive, and equitable public education, guaranteeing transparent processes that allow incorporating the best professionals into the public education system.”
