The government has delivered a new Bailey bridge to restore connectivity for several communities in Las Naves canton, Bolívar province. The 45.72-meter-long and 4.20-meter-wide structure will reconnect Bellavista, Suquibí Viejo, and Suquibí Nuevo after the previous bridge collapsed due to heavy rains and rising river levels.
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport transported the metal structure from Manabí and installed it as a replacement for the damaged bridge. This effort aims to resume both vehicle and pedestrian transit along an important route that had been disrupted.
At the handover ceremony, Paolo Carpio, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, spoke on behalf of Minister Roberto Luque: “With the placement of the new bridge, the sector will have smoother and safer traffic through larger infrastructure that will facilitate vehicle and pedestrian passage.”
More than 26,000 residents from Suquibí Viejo, Suquibí Nuevo, Bellavista, Libertad, Bosque de Oro, San Luis de Las Mercedes, San Luis de Pambil parish, and other rural communities are expected to benefit from this project.
As part of his visit to Bolívar province, Carpio also supervised construction work on a reinforced earth wall in Tambán. This forms part of ongoing rehabilitation efforts on the Chimbo–El Cristal road following a landslide in December 2021. The government has allocated USD 2.5 million for this restoration project.
Deputy Minister Daniel Elmir and Bolívar Governor Andrés Pozo met with beneficiaries of a housing initiative designed to provide decent homes for Ecuadorian families. They also visited land donated by Las Naves municipality intended for further housing projects aimed at improving living conditions in the region.
According to officials: “In this way, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport reaffirms its commitment to road development, dignified housing construction and territorial integration in Bolívar province.”
