The government of Ecuador, under President Daniel Noboa, has opened a new free Digital Point in Azogues, Cañar province. This initiative is part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to expand access to technology across the country.
The new facility will serve more than 36,000 residents in Azogues and joins a network of 15 similar centers in Cañar. These centers are intended to promote digital inclusion and provide opportunities for education and entrepreneurship.
Ricardo Gutiérrez, acting minister, led the event and said, “Technology is a tool that opens paths, drives entrepreneurship, strengthens education and allows more citizens to access essential services.”
With the opening of the Azogues Digital Point, the government says it is reinforcing its commitment to providing direct support in local communities. The center offers internet access at no cost as well as training and technological assistance for people of all ages.
Nationally, the Free Digital Points project has reported 9.7 million visits. It has provided training in information and communication technologies (ICT) to 544 citizens and currently operates 978 centers throughout Ecuador. The government states these achievements demonstrate its responsibility toward digital transformation and closing the technology gap.
Residents can use the new space to access free internet, participate in over 400 digital courses, support their businesses with technological tools, and improve their skills for current and future digital needs.
According to MINTEL (Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Society), this flagship project aims to reduce the digital divide and create a more connected Ecuador.
