Ecuador has joined the international “404” operation, an initiative targeting digital piracy by blocking and dismantling websites, applications, and devices used for the large-scale distribution of illegal content. The Internal Revenue Service (Servicio de Rentas Internas, SRI) played an active role in this global effort.
The operation has been led by Brazil since 2019 and involves coordinated actions between public and private organizations from several countries. These efforts have resulted in the blocking of thousands of irregular streaming platforms as well as raids and arrests aimed at strengthening the fight against illicit digital commerce.
According to the SRI, “Esta operación, liderada por Brasil desde 2019, integra acciones coordinadas entre organismos públicos y privados de varios países, logrando el bloqueo de miles de plataformas de streaming irregulares, además de allanamientos y detenciones que fortalecen la lucha contra el comercio ilícito digital.” (This operation, led by Brazil since 2019, integrates coordinated actions among public and private organizations from various countries, achieving the blocking of thousands of irregular streaming platforms as well as raids and arrests that strengthen the fight against illicit digital commerce.)
