The Ecuadorian government has announced that in December, $100 million was distributed as value-added tax (VAT) refunds to senior citizens and people with disabilities. This brings the total amount refunded in 2025 to $442 million, an increase of $97 million compared to the $345 million refunded in 2024.
More than 853,000 beneficiaries, including seniors and people with disabilities, received VAT refunds during 2025. The Internal Revenue Service (Servicio de Rentas Internas, SRI) stated that all refund requests properly notified by November 11 have been processed.
According to the SRI, “all refund requests that have been duly notified up to November 11 are accredited, ensuring transparency, efficiency and compliance throughout the process.”
The government emphasized its commitment to supporting priority groups through these measures. It stated: “With these actions, President Daniel Noboa’s administration demonstrates that an orderly, responsible and group-focused management allows it to meet and exceed commitments made, strengthening public trust and advancing towards a new Ecuador.”
