The government has certified 150 young people in Pichincha who completed training at Free Digital Points (PDG), a program that aims to combine sports, education, and technology for youth development. The certification event took place at the Concentración Deportiva de Pichincha.
Officials highlighted the connection between values learned through sports and digital skills that can lead to further learning, employment, and entrepreneurship. Carlos Eduardo Escobar, Undersecretary of Telecommunications and Postal Affairs, said: “Reducing the digital divide is a concrete action. For this reason, under the leadership of President Daniel Noboa Azín, the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Society (MINTEL) promotes coordinated work that brings connectivity, training, and opportunities.”
In Quito’s Metropolitan District there are currently 47 Free Digital Points. Across Pichincha province as a whole there are 70 such points distributed across seven cantons and 56 parishes. These have served over one million residents with more than 839,000 visits recorded and nearly 42,000 people trained.
Nationally, Ecuador now has 986 Free Digital Points which have seen over ten million visits and provided digital skills training to more than half a million users.
