The Plenary of the Consejo de la Judicatura (CJ) held a session on November 20, 2025, where disciplinary actions were taken against two judicial employees for violations outlined in the Código Orgánico de la Función Judicial.
During its ordinary session No. 104-2025, the CJ imposed sanctions on an assistant and a judge from different judicial units.
L.V.C.A., who served as a judicial assistant at the Unidad Judicial Penal de Iñaquito in Quito, was dismissed from her position. According to the CJ, “The server was sanctioned pecuniarily in four summaries. In this way she incurred in the infraction typified in numeral 3 of article 109 of the Código Orgánico de la Función Judicial. This is, having received fines more than three times within one year.” The penalty applied was dismissal.
J.A.S.R., a judge at the Unidad Judicial Multicompetente of Zaruma canton in El Oro province, received a suspension without pay for 15 days. The CJ stated: “He acted without competence in an action for protection. He incurred in the infraction typified in numeral 6 of article 108 of the Código Orgánico de la Función Judicial. He violated due process regarding constitutional guarantees. This led to the Civil Chamber of the Provincial Court of Justice of El Oro declaring nullity of all proceedings since admission of the constitutional action.”
These measures are part of ongoing efforts by Ecuador’s judiciary to enforce accountability among its staff and ensure adherence to legal standards.
