Claudio Sougarret, General Manager of the El Teniente Division at Codelco, led a safety reflection session last week in the Colón Alto sector. The event was attended by more than 150 workers and members of the division’s executive committee. The session aimed to strengthen the culture of prevention, on-site care, and operational practices within the division.
Codelco continues to provide information and support to the families of deceased workers. A closing report is being prepared based on recent support activities, and the findings will guide a second phase of assistance during the last quarter of 2025.
Operational updates indicate that the Safe and Progressive Restart Plan is ongoing. On Shift A, there was an average of 8,947 workers, with 1,662 entering the mine. Shift C saw an average of 2,087 workers, with 680 accessing the mine interior. Grinding throughput averaged 88,100 tons per day at Sewell and Colón, with most ore sent to the Colón plant and a smaller portion to the Sewell plant. The SAG1 and SAG2 lines are operating, and the conventional mill resumed activity after scheduled maintenance. The Teniente 2 Converter and Gas Cleaning Plant No. 2 at the smelter continued operating, while the Teniente 1 Converter began monthly maintenance. Concentrate smelting reached 2,717 tons per day, and fine ore casting averaged 459 metric tons per day.
Regarding investigations and oversight, there are 80 requests from various services and authorities, with 53 already addressed and the remainder being processed within established timelines. The National Investigation Department (PDI) and Prosecutor’s Office conducted investigations inside the mine. Inspectors from the Labor Directorate and Sernageomin visited the industrial area and met with the Occupational Health and Safety Manager. Vivianne Blanlot from the Independent Experts Group also interviewed key management staff.
“Codelco reaffirms its commitment to safety, transparency, and ongoing support for its employees and their families, maintaining all necessary actions for a safe and gradual restart of operations,” stated the company.
