Codelco CEO Nelson Pizarro has called for his company to focus on finance goals while raising standards of company transparency.

“Be assured that we have done the right thing and concentrate on continuing to do so, which is our only possible response to the country,” Pizarro said in a speech commemorating the nationalization of copper, according to a press release.

He called for a focus on production and expense goals and more transparency to build more credibility among the company’s owners.

The commemoration event took place 200 meters below the Chuquicamata ravine, where Codelco has an extremely modern mine. The company has invested $4.8 billion in the mine.

Codelco has contributed $102 billion to Chile’s progress since copper was nationalized in 1971. This money goes to hospitals, roads, schools, pensions and health care.

The company has produced 59 million tons of copper in the past 46 years.
