A Chilean delegation attended the International Mining and Resources Conference (IMARC) 2025 in Sydney to promote investment opportunities in mining and infrastructure. The group included public officials and private sector representatives, with Mining Undersecretary Suina Chahuán leading the delegation. Other members were Chile’s Ambassador to Australia, Beatriz de la Fuente; Claudio Soto, Acting Director General of Concessions; Lorena Araya from the General Directorate of Concessions (DGC); Christoff Janse from InvestChile; and Alejandra Silva, Investment Manager at InvestChile.

The visit began with a networking breakfast organized by the Australia-Latin America Business Council (ALABC), which brought together about 100 participants from both sectors. The delegation also participated in a kick-off meeting aimed at raising Chile’s profile at IMARC and engaged in networking activities with other national delegations.

A roundtable discussion sponsored by EY featured Michael Rundus, EY Partner and Oceania Mining & Metals Leader, who presented on “Top 10 Risks and Opportunities 2026.” Matías Moroso from EY Chile moderated the discussion. Speakers included Christoff Janse, who discussed mining investment opportunities in Chile; Claudio Soto, who spoke about public infrastructure projects; and Undersecretary Suina Chahuán, who reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustainable growth and collaboration between public and private sectors.

Ambassador Beatriz de la Fuente emphasized Chile’s favorable business climate and its strategic partnership with Australia. “Chile has a favorable business climate for foreign investors,” she said. “Our strategic alliance with Australia is key for future development.”

On the second day, activities included opening the ALABC Latin America Lounge attended by Queensland Minister of Finance, Trade, Employment and Training Rosslyn Bates MP and ALABC President Richard Andrews. The delegation held bilateral meetings with Saudi Arabian officials to discuss cooperation in mining.

Meetings also took place with Queensland Minister Ros Bates MP regarding infrastructure collaboration and METS (Mining Equipment, Technology and Services), where an invitation was extended for a visit to Chile. Christoff Janse participated in an ALABC panel discussing mineral exploration advantages in Latin America.

Throughout the week, delegates had more than ten bilateral meetings and two technical visits as part of an agenda led by InvestChile and DGC to promote public infrastructure projects. Meetings were held with organizations such as The GEO Group Australia, IFM Investors, Victoria’s Infrastructure Division, Hall Chadwick, ASFA (Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia), and EY Australia.

Technical visits included stops at Sydney Desalination Plant Pty Limited and Sydney Water’s PRW Plant to learn about advanced water management solutions relevant for potential application in Chile. The mission concluded with participation in a networking event organized by Auscham, Andesmets, and ProChile Australia.

According to organizers, these exchanges helped position Chile as a competitive regional hub for foreign investment across mining, infrastructure, and sustainable development while strengthening ties with Australian partners.
