Chile’s primary energy utility Enel Distribución recently issued a proactive strategy to cope with potential electricity outage incidents using staff and technical support based on predictions of heavy rainfall in the Santiago metropolitan region.

“In the event of damage to the power grid caused by wind and rainfall, people should exercise extreme caution and not approach cables that could be on the ground, which could be energized,” the company said in a press release.

Additionally, Enel Distribución recommends that consumers exercise caution around electrical equipment and rely on authorities to handle repairs for safety reasons. Residents are advised not to intervene with equipment in order to avoid the risk of electrocution.

The company’s preventive plan for heavy rain forecast is supported by amplified communication accessibility, according to the release.

Enel Distribución is Chile’s leading electricity distributor, with more than 1.8 million customers. It is a subsidiary of Enel Generación Chile and serves 33 communities in the Santiago metropolitan region, the release said.
