Geoscience company CGG has recently acquired the necessary permits to conduct a regional broadband seismic survey of Brazil’s Barreirinhas Basin.

The survey will be carried out by the research vessel Oceanic Vega and will provide 2D and 3D data for approximately 5,600 square miles just off the coast. CGG will make use of its high-resolution BroadSeis technology for imaging.

“CGG has responded to significant client interest in the potential of the Barreirinhas Basin with an ambitious program for a new benchmark broadband regional survey,” CGG CEO Jean-Georges Malcor said. “BroadSeis has provided significant insight to explorers in the Atlantic and Equatorial margins of Brazil, and is the natural choice for our MegaBar survey. With over 50 years of operating history in Brazil, CGG is as dedicated as ever to supporting Brazil’s exploration, development and production challenges and believes that this new regional seismic data set will offer an excellent opportunity to understand the geological potential of this new frontier.”

CGG will process the survey at its facility in Rio de Janeiro and release the results in phases, beginning in May.

CGG is a company of 7,500 employees working with the oil and gas industries to optimize tools for natural resource exploration and exploitation.
